Ready-made list

Run a white elephant gift exchange fairly

Holiday parties stall when nobody agrees who goes first. A shuffled unwrap order plus optional random steals keeps the game moving without host favoritism.

Paste guest names, shuffle the unwrap order, then pick who may steal when your house rules allow. Keep assignments local on the host’s device.

Suggested house flow

Shuffle once for unwrap order. Person 1 opens a gift; later players may unwrap new or steal according to your rules. When a steal is allowed, switch to Pick on the remaining eligible names.

Secret Santa is a different game (hidden givers). White elephant is public chaos—use Shuffle and Pick, not the Santa circle, unless your party combines both.

Keeping it kind

Set a price cap and a “no hurtful gifts” rule before you randomize. The tool orders people; it does not fix gift taste.

On a shared laptop, turn remembering off so next year’s host starts clean.

How to use this list

  1. 1

    Paste guests

One name per line—everyone who brought a gift.

  2. 2

    Shuffle unwrap order

Run Shuffle and display or print the sequence.

  3. 3

    Pick steals when needed

Switch to Pick for “who steals next” if your rules need a random chooser.

Tips for this scenario

  • Number gifts 1–N and keep a paper grid; the site orders people, not physical wraps.
  • For office parties, exclusions belong in Secret Santa—not usually in white elephant.
  • Raffle ticket mode helps if guests bought multiple entry stubs instead of one gift each.

Frequently asked questions

Is white elephant the same as Secret Santa?

No. Secret Santa assigns private gifters in a circle. White elephant is a shared unwrap-and-steal game—use Shuffle/Pick here.

Can I block couples from consecutive turns?

Shuffle does not enforce seating rules. Manually swap two lines after the shuffle if your hosts prefer that.

Will guests see the list if I share a link?

Share links include the names in the URL. Prefer showing the screen in the room instead of posting the link.
